    Mr. Cotton specialises in cross border M&A, corporate and commercial law with a particular focus on energy and infrastructure transactions and projects. He also advises both Finnish and international clients on their cross-border business operations. Andrew is a qualified Finnish lawyer, and also a qualified English solicitor.

    Andrew has long-standing experience of advising specialist funds, overseas investors and strategic buyers on the acquisition Finnish assets as well as investments into Finnish targets. He regularly advises sponsors in their acquisition and financing renewable energy projects in Finland and has advised on renewables projects across Europe, the US and the Middle East. In recent years, Andrew has been particularly active in advising international insurers on the underwriting of Warranty & Indemnity insurance in respect of Finnish transactions, assisting in the underwriting of transactions with a deal value in excess of €5B euros.

    Before moving to Finland and joining HPP, he worked as a partner at law firms in the City of London.

    Andrew qualified as an English Solicitor in 2001 after graduating from the University of Nottingham and passing his professional exams at the College of Law in Guildford, UK. He joined HPP in 2009.

    Ms. Leino specializes in environmental and water issues. She is part of the environmental law team and assists mainly in issues concerning environmental permits, environmental impact assessments and nature conservation legislation. In addition, she has vast experience on environment, nature and water related surveys and impact assessments.

    Before joining HPP, Laura has worked as a senior consultant in an international consulting company and as an environmental biologist in an energy company. She also worked as a Junior Professional Officer for the secretariat to the Espoo Convention at UN Economic Commission for Europe.

    Laura graduated from the University of Helsinki in 2014 specializing in environmental law. In addition, she holds a degree in biology (M.Sc.) from the University of Helsinki. She started at HPP as an environmental specialist in the beginning of 2014.

    Mr. Marttinen specialises in environmental law and dispute resolution related to the field. His areas of expertise include permit procedures, matters pertaining to the application of administrative law, matters pertaining to environmental liability and nature protection, waste management and recycling and infrastructure projects. He is in charge of the firm’s environmental group.

    Kari has particular experience in liability issues related to old industrial areas and complex matters related to permits and complaints in accordance with the Water Act, Environmental Protection Act and Land Use and Building Act, and also in dispute resolution concerning environmental liabilities. He has held the principal responsibility as an attorney in several major projects. In addition, he has taught at the University of Helsinki and the University of Technology in Espoo.

    Kari assists enterprises in the energy sector, and also commercial and industrial enterprises, along with those in the forest, metal and recycling sector, and different institutions and interest groups. He has extensive experience in the recycling industry and in matters pertaining to producer responsibility particularly in the packaging industry. At the core of his expertise are also matters pertaining to nature protection, expropriation and related dispute resolution. His expert status is recognised within the field of environmental law in Finland, as well as internationally.

    Mr. Mäkinen specializes in technology, media and telecommunications transactions and projects as well as matters pertaining to intellectual property rights. He has also extensive experience in the fields of sales and distribution, marketing, mobile services, licensing, research and development and venturing. He is in charge of the firm’s technology, media and telecommunications group.

    Markku assists companies in the fields of commerce and industry, particularly in the ICT sector. He has significant experience of large-scale technology implementation and delivery projects and technology development in an international environment. He has lead several legal teams including the Nokia China and Nokia North America legal teams as well as been responsible for the legal support to Nokia Research Center and Nokia Ventures Organization and head of legal for Nokia’s global marketing, retail, online sales, logistics and care functions. Prior to his career in Nokia he was a partner of a Helsinki based law firm. Markku acts also as a Board member of a Finnish start-up company.

    Markku is a graduate of the University of Helsinki. He joined HPP in 2012. Markku’s working languages are Finnish and English.

    Mr. Nykvist specialises in banking and finance, M&A and real estate transactions. He is also involved in corporate and financing aspects of infrastructure projects on aregular basis. He is head of HPP’s finance group, which was described as a “Rising Star” in the Legal 500 publication in 2009.

    Björn’s finance work mainly relates to acquisition and asset finance, project finance and distressed finance as well as security and refinancing arrangements relating thereto, covering the whole range of issues from regulatory matters to enforcement issues. Björn is also increasingly involved in advising on investment and structuring issues arising from renewable and wind energy projects for overseas investors.

    In addition to finance, Björn is regularly involved in cross-border M&A matters and joint venture arrangements. He advises a diverse client base, including Finnish and international banks, private equity houses and major corporate clients in arange of sectors such as energy, mining, retail, construction and aviation.

    Tarja Pirinen specialises in advising on exploration and mining projects. She has extensive experience of mining law and the legal questions arising from client involvement in the mining industry. She also has significant experience of assisting companies with commercial agreements in the IT and technology sectors. Tarja is in charge of the firm’s mining group and is also part of the environment group and IP and technology group. Tarja assists mining companies with regard to legal questions arising in different phases of exploration and mining projects. She has assisted several domestic and international mining companies in permit processes and the obtaining of rights, in acquisitions, transactions including financing transactions relating to mining projects as well as in contracts relating to procurement and delivery.
